The Palm Grove of Elche

THE PALM GROVE MUSEUM
Take a step back into time to the origins of the palm grove of Elche to discover its history and evolution throughout time. Originally, it was the home of the Carbonell family who cultivated palm and date trees. The museum has several rooms with different types of exhibits (videos, displays, touch-screens, etc.). It is located at the Huerto de San Plácido (garden/orchard), at 12 Porta de la Morera, bordering the Huerto del Cura hotel.

La Alcudia and The Lady of Elche
The first settlement in the area, in approximately 5,000 B.C., was in the area known as La Alcudia where the “Lady of Elche” was discovered in 1897. The Lady of Elche is a stone bust of an Iberian priestess from the 5th century B.C. The original bust is kept at the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid, but you can see several reproductions throughout the city…one of the most faithful reproductions is located in the Huerto del Cura.
