The programme airs this Saturday, February 20th at 6:00 p.m. (C.E.T.) in which the host will take you on a journey through the garden located in Elche, Spain.

The National Artistic Garden, Huerto del Cura will star in the new episode of the series ‘Gardens with a History’ (“Jardines con Historia”) on Channel 2 TV of Spanish Television. A series dedicated to Spanish gardens’ architecture, art, history and botany. This new episode can be watched on February 20TH at 6:00 p.m. (C.E.T.).

Presented by architect Arturo Franco, this series promotes awareness of the heritage of Spanish gardens through biographies of historical figures who demonstrated their interest in nature and who have left their footprint through the landscape treasures of our cultural heritage. On this occasion, the architect will unveil the Imperial Palm Tree, the fantastic collection of cacti, the charm of the ponds, the great variety of palm trees and the enormous botanical diversity of the Huerto del Cura.

In addition, you will be taken on a  journey through the history of this emblematic garden and of the different characters such as Chaplain Castaño, Juan Orts or Empress Sissi, who have somehow made it possible for this unique enclave to be enjoyed today.

On the other hand, the Huerto del Cura will also be contextualized as part of the Historic Palm Grove of Elche, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. A unique urban landscape over a thousand years old. The largest palm grove in Europe made up of more than 200,000 specimens and about 50,000 found in municipal nurseries.

‘Gardens with a History’ is a series directed by Sonia Tercero Ramiro, produced by Televisión Española in collaboration with Time Zone, which was shot over the summer of last year. In addition to the Huerto del Cura, the series covers such prominent locations as: the Gardens of Aranjuez in Madrid; La Granja de San Ildefonso in Segovia; the La Orotava Acclimatization Garden in Tenerife; Chillida-Leku in Hernani (Guipúzcoa), and the Gardens of the Alhambra and the Generalife, among many other beautiful enclaves.
